Connie Evans is a full blood, enrolled member of the Nez Perce Nation.
This is the tribe of Chief Joseph, Chief Whitebird, Chief LookingGlass,
Chief Ellis, and Chief Lawyer. She is descended from the Whitebird Salmon
River people and is related by blood to both Chief Lawyer and Chief Looking
Glass who was killed during the last battle of the Nez Perce War.

She has been a tipi camper since before memory and remembers both of her grandmothers making tipis by hand. By profession she is a retired Commander
of the USPHS Corps serving as a Family Nurse Practitioner and prior Army
Nurse Corps where she served in Vietnam (1966-67).


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Steven Evans grew up on and near the Umatilla Indian Reservation in
Oregon where he became interested in Native American culture and the
love of horses and tipis. He was employed by Lewis Clark State College, in
Lewiston, ID and retired after 33 years. He taught American History and
implemented the course on Nez Perce History while there. He is the author
of "Voice of the Old Wolf; Lucullus Virgil McWhorter and the Nez Perce Indians",
(WSU Press, 1996)
